Climate impact

A climate-neutral value chain

We see our climate footprint as a serious challenge, and we work to continuously reduce emissions throughout the value chain through increased energy efficiency and increased use of renewable energy.

The goal of becoming climate neutral

We have set a goal of becoming climate neutral by 2040. At the same time, our business is growing, which places high demands on our priority to reduce the climate footprint at all levels.

Throughout the organization, we work to reduce energy consumption throughout the value chain and use renewable energy as much as possible. At the same time, we focus on switching to a more circular business model – which you can read more about here.

Emissions

During 2020, our emissions were reduced by 10% in own operations’, compared with 2019 (scope 1 and 2). Contributing factors are higher awareness of electricity consumption in warehouses and offices as well as less use of company cars.

During 2021 we switched to 100% renewable electricity in our own operations.

We are also looking into how we can measure individual products’ emissions throughout the value chain.

Water

The producers’ greatest impact on the environment is the water consumption in connection with dyeing of yarn and washing of rugs as well as transportation from the production unit to our warehouses.

We work actively to reduce water impact in the supply chain by encouraging our producers to cooperate with subcontractors who have the required water treatment plants and environmental management systems in place.

Our largest producers in India work with a joint subcontractor for yarn dyeing that has a completely closed water purification system and environmental management system in place.

Transports

If our rugs are used for their entire intended life, the transport accounts for a relatively low proportion of the carpet’s total climate emissions. Transport emissions are an issue that we can both influence and prioritize, since all sales to our customers take place through our online e-commerce platform. Several initiatives have been launched with the aim of reducing the proportion of truck transport to boat transport, which will reduce the value chain’s overall climate footprint. We are currently also investigating various possibilities to reduce the impact through other more environmentally friendly shipping alternatives to customers.

In a near future, our customers will have the opportunity to climate-compensate the deliveries.
